Salatul Kusuf Salatul Kusoof is a Sunnah Prayer offered during a solar or lunar eclipse.

We Muslims recognize that everything is created and sustained by the Lord of the universe, Allah Almighty.

The sun and the moon are two signs from Allah, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or the birth of anyone. Salat al-Kusuf is a confirmed Sunnah according to the consensus of the scholars. 

If we Read Holy Book Quran, It encourages us to look around observe, and reflect on the beauties and wonders of the natural world as signs of Allah’s majesty. Various Verse/ ayat of Quran reminder about this …

And (Allah) is He Who created the night and the day, and (also) the sun and the moon. All (heavenly bodies) are continually floating fast in their respective orbits. (Quran 21:33)

In Another Verse of Quran, Chapter 55 Ayat 5, Says

The sun and the moon are rotating according to the configuration determined (by Him). (Quran 55:05)

Quran has many verses which guides us about the planetary movements of sun and moon. If we see the timing of 5 Salah is calculated based on the Moon & Sun Movement, we cant ignore this aspect of life. Eid Day celebrations will depend on visibility of new moon.

There are many times when Lunar eclipse or solar eclipse occurs due to the movement of planets. 

Salat al-Kusuf is a confirmed Sunnah according to the consensus of the scholars. The evidence for this is the Sunnah reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

During a solar or lunar eclipse, Our Beloved Prophet Muhammd SAW, told us to increase our Ibadath and, It is Wajib to pray the Salat al-Khusuf…..Yes it Wajib Salah to be offered whenever there is Either Solar/ lunar Eclipse.

During the Eclipse time it will affect every person is different ways, Some Important things which you should not do during this Eclipse.

  1. Pregnant Ladies must take extra care, don’t go out and take care.
  2. Don’t start anything new Business/ work etc during this time, it might affect your financial situation.
  3. Don’t travel during this time.
  4. Since moon has direct impact on mind, control your emotional.

Eclipses are signs from Allah

Eclipses are signs from Allah by means of which Allah makes His slaves afraid . Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We sent not the signs except to warn, and to make them afraid (of destruction)” [al-Isra 17:39]

Salatul Kusoof Must be offered by all.

Imam al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated that Ibn Mas’ud al-Ansari said: the sun was eclipsed the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) died, and the people said, The sun is eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The sun and the moon are two signs from Allah, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or the birth of anyone. If you see that, hasten to remember Allah and to pray.

How to perform Salatul Kusoof /Salatul Kusoof

1. Before offering the Salah, one must ensure the taharah, purity of the body, the clothes and the place.
2. Make Wudhu (ablution)
3. Face the Qiblah
4. Make the intention in your heart that you are praying Salatul Kusoof.
5. Pronounce the Takbir Tahreema (that is, Allahu Akbar)
6. Recite the Surat-ul-Fatihah and then a Surah, preferably a long surah.
7. Then perform a long Ruku.
8. Rise from the Ruku and say “Samee Allahu Liman Hamidah, Rabbanaa walakal Hamd.”
9. Again recite Surah al Fatihah and then a Surah, preferably a long Surah but shorter than the one recited before.
10. Then go for the Second Ruku. This Ruku must be long but shorter than the first one.
11. Rise from the second Ruku, and say Sami’Allahu Liman Hamidah, Rabbanaa walakal Hamd.
12. Perform two Sajdahs, one after the other as in normal salah but each sajdah must be of lengthy duration.
13. One Rakah is over. Then get up and perform the second Rakah following the same procedure as done in the first Rakah.
14. After performing two sajdahs of the second rakah, sit for the Tashahhud and end the Salah with Tasleem. (that is by saying Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah first on the right, and then on the left)

Make lots of Tasbeeh, Tahleel and Tahmeed. Seek forgiveness from Allah, give charity and make lots of duaas.
