Virtues of Sayyidah Fatimah The Lady of Light

Virtues of Sayyidah Fatimah Salam-u-Allah Alaiha

Hazrat Fatima(Radiyallahu Anha) was born five years before her father declared Prophethood.

Prophet Mohammed(peace be upon him) was 35 years old when she was born. She was born during the year when the Ka”bah was being rebuilt. She became a Muslim when she was 5 years old, as soon he declared Prophethood. She was the youngest Muslim in Islam.

The Word Fatima comes from the word “fitam” which means the one that is kept away from evil and bad character. She has four nicknames which  are ‘Zahraa(The Lady of Light)”, “Batool”, “Umm al-Hasan wal-Husayn”(Mother of Hasan and Husayn) and the last is the nicest nickname “Ummu Abeeha”. From the extent of her love and affection for her father i.e.Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) , and the fact that she was always with him and trying to defend him, just as a mother has these feeling towards her child, so she became known as “Umm Abeeha” by the Sahaba and scholars.

The word Batool is used to refer to Maryam the mother of Jesus peace be upon him. Fatima’s worship resembled Maryam’s worship as well as her modesty and so she was called Batool.

After arriving in Madina , she was married to Hazrat Ali(Radiyallahu Anhu), in the first year after Hijrah. Her children, Hassan, Hussain, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum(Radiyallahu Anhum) are well-known for their piety, goodness and generosity. Their strength of character and actions changed the course of history.

Hadith #2

Hazrat Ayeshah (Radiyallahu Anha) narrates,“Fatimah (Radiyallahu Anha) came and her way of walking was just like that of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him). The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) welcomed his beloved daughter Sayyidah Fatimah and seated her on his right hand side or on the left hand side*. Then he whispered something to her which made her cry. So I asked her why she was crying. Then the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) whispered something to her and she laughed.

So I said, ‘I have never seen happiness so close to sadness as I have seen today.’

I asked (Fatimah(Radiyallahu Anha), ‘What did the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) say?’

Sayyidah Fatimah replied, ‘I cannot disclose the secret of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him).’

When the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) passed away I asked her again (about this incident) and she replied, ‘The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) whispered to me, ‘Every year Jibraeel recites the whole of the Quran with me once but this year he has recited it twice. I am sure that the end of my time in this world has come and indeed you are the first from my family who will come to me.’ This made me cry. Then the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) whispered,‘Are you not happy with the fact that you are the leader of the women of Paradise or the leader of all Muslim women*.’ To this I laughed.’
